Lucie Gehringer knew she wanted to honor her brother, Chris, in a meaningful way. After his passing in May 2025 from stage 4 appendix cancer, she launched Colored by Chris, a heartfelt t-shirt fundraiser that blends creativity, advocacy, and love.
Chris, who was diagnosed with autism at age two, lived with passion, purpose, and a contagious joy for life. He spent more than eight years working at ShopRite—pushing carts, helping customers, and dreaming about cleaning up parking lots at other stores during family errands. He loved biking, video games, and chores—especially blowing the leaves and taking out the garbage—and he had a deep love for food, sports, and the people around him.
When it came time to choose a nonprofit to receive proceeds from the fundraiser, Lucie turned to Google—and her mom’s long-standing awareness of Spectrum360. “We wanted to find a nonprofit that aligned with our values,” Lucie shared. “Spectrum360 seemed like the perfect fit.”
Lucie designed the t-shirts using Chris’s original artwork and handwriting. The result was a collection that captures his spirit and creativity while raising over $4,000 to support individuals with autism and related challenges.

“We are deeply touched by Lucie’s tribute to Chris and honored that she chose Spectrum360 as the beneficiary of this fundraiser,” shares Kerry Guzman, Director of Development at Spectrum360. “Colored by Chris not only celebrates his creativity and spirit but also helps us continue our mission of supporting individuals with autism to live meaningful, fulfilling lives.”
The success of Colored by Chris is more than just numbers—it’s a reflection of community, connection, and a sister’s commitment to ensuring her brother’s light continues to shine. “Chris had an enthusiasm for life that I’ve never seen before,” Lucie said. “This project has helped me learn to appreciate the little things—just like he did.”
